BICHOLIM: Speaker Anant Shet on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed bypass road in front of the Chowgule Club building at Poira in Mayem constituency.
The road was constructed by the PWD at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. Mayem Sarpanch Neha Thanekar, Deputy Sarpanch Mahesh Ghadi, Panchas Vijay Pole and Urvi Masurkar, Mayem BJP Mandal president Ladko Kinalkar, Ajit Mhambrey, Shanu Navelkar, Devanand Karbotkar and Subhash Kolamkar were present at the inaugural function.
The road in front of the Chowgule Club building had been narrow and had resulted in several accidents. There was no scope for road widening, prompting villagers to put forth a proposal for bypass road a few years ago.
Following efforts by Shet, the construction of bypass road was approved and the contract was awarded to the PWD.
“The road will be hot mixed within a short span of time. The proposal of road widening from Poira to Bicholim was forwarded to the State government for approval and it will be undertaken once it is approved,” said Shet at the function.
He also said the beautification work of Mayem lake was nearing completion. “Once the lake is beautified, it will attract large number of tourists and the surrounding roads in Mayem will also be widened,” he added.
