TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai told the media on Thursday that the Sewerage Corporation Board has given its approval in-principle to take up the replacement of the underground line at a cost of Rs 90 crore
in phase I.
“The Sewerage Corporation board has agreed in-principle to sanction Rs 90 crore for the ambitious project, which will replace the underground sewerage line from Arlem right up to the sewage treatment plant at Sirvodem,” he told
the media.
Replying to a question, Sardesai pointed out that the Sewerage Corporation will start the process of tendering of the phase I of the sewerage project during the intervening monsoon period before work will commence on the line around November-December.
“I had taken up the project of replacement of the underground damaged line, which was laid in the mid-80’s and 90’s since the line was damaged at several places along the route, with sewage water flowing into the fields and water bodies, posing health hazard to the residents along the route,” Sardesai added.
He pointed out that replacement of the damaged Arlem-Sirvodem line has been an election promise made to the people of Fatorda constituency in the 2017 Assembly election as the line had wrought havoc in the fields and water bodies over the years.
Meanwhile, the TCP Minister gave a patient hearing to the displaced families as well as the Comba ward Councilor Ketan Kurtarkar and BJP leader Chandan Nayak, who insisted that no outsiders should be accommodated in the land acquired for the rehabilitation of the 14 families displaced by the Ring Road project.
In fact, Sardesai assured that the Housing Board would be willing to construct houses for the land loosers if they so desire and urged the people to take a call whether they want the plots or houses constructed by the Housing Board. Both Ketan and Chandan made a forceful plea to the Minister that the acquired land should be used to accommodate only the displaced people and not people from outside Comba.
