In attempt to quell bad publicity in an election year, Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar met protestors and sought one month’s time to remove hazardous electricity poles at Maddel, Tivim.
Representatives of two NGOs “ Savera and Provide Happiness Foundation “ staged a sit-in at Maddel protesting against non-removal of electricity poles, which poses danger to motorists and locals in the area.
Criticizing the attitude of the BJP-led government, Tara Kerkar of Savera said the government has time to distribute LED bulbs, but the same government continues to ignore electricity poles that are hazardous to public.
Ashley Noronha informed that he had written to the electricity department to shift the poles before it could cause a serious mishap.
“Instead of removing the poles in public interest, the electricity department demanded Rs 19 lakh from me as fees to shift the poles,” Noronha disclosed.
On being informed of the protest, Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar rushed to the site at Maddel and promised the protestors that he will get the poles removed within a month.
“Give me a month’s time. I will ensure the electricity poles are shifted from their present position,” Kandolkar said.
The protestors left the place on the MLA’s assurance but warned to return back if the poles were not removed within the stipulated time.
It may be recalled that the Aam Aadmi Party had organized a similar protest a month back against the dangerous electricity poles in the middle of the road.
