At a time when the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar had assured the House that potholes on major roads would be patched up prior to Ganesh Chaturthi, the highway road stretches -- between Agassaim bypass and Cortalim circle and Cortalim Circle and Verna slope -- are still crying for attention.

Potholes causing traffic slowdown during peak hours is now the order of the day. The traffic cell have made several representations to the PWD to repair the stretches.

Even the pleas made by Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, local bodies and residents have fallen on deaf ears.

Saldanha informed reporters that she had recently spoken to the PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar about the bad stretches and the overall condition of the roads.

She also spoke to the officials of Dilip Buildcon and requested them to carry repair works during the days when the rains had subsided.

Saldanha said major repair work on the road will be carried out after the monsoon ends, but added at least the patch work was needed

to give relief to motorists temporarily.

“I have spoken to principal chief engineer PWD Uttam Parsekar and also the DBL authorities to fill up the potholes during dry spells so that commuter woes are eased. I am aware of the difficulties faced by commuters travelling to Margao, Panaji and Vasco. The engineers of PWD and DBL are waiting for a dry spell in order to take up patch work on the potholes. The principal chief engineer PWD has assured me of getting the potholes filled up as soon as the rain stops,” she stated.
