PORVORIM
Voting took place in a peaceful manner in Porvorim constituency on Monday with no untoward incident reported at any of the polling stations in the constituency.
Voting began at a slow pace at various polling stations, including the ones at Sanjay School, Government high school, District Institute of Education and Training and Alto-Porvorim Sports and Cultural Club.
As the day progressed, voting picked up and people eventually turned out in large numbers and long queues were seen at some polling stations in Socorro, especially at Holy Family High School.
Police teams were deployed inside and outside the polling stations to ensure free, fair and peaceful polls, while Flying Squads were seen moving in Porvorim constituency.
Former Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte cast his vote along with his mother and wife at the Alto-Porvorim Sports and Cultural Club at 9 am, while former Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar cast his vote at Reis Magos panchayat office in the afternoon.
Later speaking to media persons, Khaunte said people had turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
“Considering the present trend of voting, I feel Porvorim constituency will have a voting percentage of over 75%,” said Khaunte.
