Nod to Cancanamoddi development: Govt, TCP continue to be pathological violators, says Yuri

With the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department reportedly giving clearance for the development of land at Cancanamoddi-Panzorconne, local Congress leader Yuri Alemao has said the government and the TCP have not learnt any lesson and continue to be pathological violators.

Addressing the media, Yuri has warned that the people of Cuncolim and the Congress party workers will oppose the hill cutting. They reposed full faith in the "Rakhondar Aajo" of the hillock site to provide strength to the people in their struggle to protect the natural resource

“Close on the heels of the controversial real estate development at the Old Goa heritage site, it looks that the BJP government is all out to provide clearances to the real estate project at Cancanamoddi”, Yuri said, while addressing the media.

He further alleged that the builder lobby involved in the project is desperately trying to topple the ruling Congress dispensation in Cuncolim Municipal Council to make smooth access for getting required permissions from the Cuncolim Municipal council.

Giving a full account of the developments, Yuri said that in July this year, Concerned Citizens of Cuncolim had filed complaints against the illegal hill cutting.

"The Cuncolim Municipal Council had issued the stop-work order and a joint inspection with TCP officials was requested. At this inspection, the TCP officer was arrogant and brazen stating that the Cancanamoddi Hillock is not a hill. The TCP has now issued a fresh Technical Clearance on November 22," he said.

Yuri further stated that the interests involved are of BJP Ministers and the MLA including that of TCP Minister.

Yuri also advised all the elected councillors irrespective of political affiliations to stand firm and together on the issue as any development will damage the ecology of the place, the surroundings and eventually destroy the Water Aquifer at the bottom of the hill. “It is a priceless resource and heritage where all should sink political differences," said Yuri and criticised the local MLA for his silence.
