SANGUEM
Cyclonic winds accompanied by heavy rains which lashed Sanguem taluka for around 15 minutes on Wednesday afternoon threw normal life out of gear.
Fallen trees across the main road caused traffic blockades at many places and as a result people had to wait for quite some time to proceed to their destinations. These also caused damage to roof tiles and asbestos sheets.
At Nondurlem Sanguem, an electricity pole came crashing down thereby putting the entire town into darkness. The department employees immediately began work to restore power supply despite the rains. A large number of trees are also reported to have come down on the main road at Valkini and in the nearby Kalay village. Severe damage was also caused to agricultural plantations due to the cyclonic winds. At some places, roof tiles and cement sheets
of people’s houses got blown away.
