Seeking help from the people in preventing crime, North Goa SP Chandan Choudary urged the people to become proactive and help the police in making their locality a safer place to live.
Choudary was speaking at a public interaction meeting organised by Old Goa police at St Francis Xavier Residency, Old Goa on Tuesday.
“Keep your eyes and ears open and report anything suspicious to the beat police so that the locality becomes a safer place,” Choudary told the residents while advising them to get verification of tenants, servants done at the earliest.
“It is the responsibility of each individual to get verification of tenants and servants done as it not only acts as a deterrent to crime but also helps police in tracking the accused when crime occurs,” she added.
Later, Choudary directed the Old Goa police to provide forms to get verification of tenants and servants done. She also directed that data of senior citizens residing in the residency be also maintained. “Police will make random calls and look after the welfare of the senior citizens,” she stated.
When the residents stated that there is no society registered at the residency and that the builder looks after the security, the SP directed to organise another meeting wherein the builder should also be called.
Earlier, SDPO Nelson Albuquerque explained the purpose of the meeting. He explained to them about proactive policing which he said helps in prevention of crime. “The public play an important role in proactive policing,” Albuquerque opined and urged the people not to hesitate in reporting any suspicious activity to the beat police who will make further inquiries.
Albuquerque also urged the residents to install CCTVs, alarm systems and to inform the police as well as the neighbours in case they plan to visit their native place during Chaturthi. Old Goa PI Sudesh Velip welcomed the gathering.
