With the All Goa Truck Owners Association (AGTTA) rejecting the rate proposed by Vedanta Company over the rate for transporting ore, the North Goa Tipper Truck Association (NGTTA) has now demanded the government's intervention to resolve the issue.
Addressing a news conference in the city on Friday, NGTTA president Suresh Desai along with Sandeep Parab, Prakash Gawas, Yashwant Desai, Shyam Gawathanker and others said the transportation rate should be in the interest of all truckers.
“The AGTTA is demanding a rate of Rs 11.27 per tonne per km and diesel at Rs 39.60, which was last given during suspension of mining activities in the State. We are in 2016 and inflation has gone up. The rate should be decided after considering all these aspects. We request the transport department to intervene and decide in the matter,” Desai said.
According to Desai, the transport department along with mines officials and truckers had convened a meeting to discuss on the rate issue a few months back, which it was discontinued for some reasons.
“We request the government to continue the meeting and decide on the uniform rate, which will benefit all,” he said.
It may be recalled that Vedanta Company had proposed Rs 10.50 for short distance of transportation of iron ore, but AGTTA rejected it and stuck to its demand of Rs 11.27 per tonne per km.
Asked to specify the rate which the would agree to, Desai replied: “It is upto the government to decide. The mines companies should not decide on the rate.”
