The MPT on Monday afternoon alerted citizens and fishermen along the State’s coastal areas after receiving fresh alerts and a weather advisory from the Meteorological department regarding high waves between 5.30 pm on Monday and 11.30 pm on Tuesday.
Accordingly, MPT has instructed its Signal Station to transmit security alert messages every hour to alert ships at anchor and ships plying off Goa Coast.
MPT Dy Conservator Capt. Manoj Joshi had said the previous advisory had warned of high waves from 10.30 am on Saturday to 11.30 pm on Sunday. Anticipating that fishermen would assume that the sea was back to normal, the MPT immediately notified fishermen of a fresh advisory from the MET department that similar adverse weather conditions could prevail from 5.30 pm on Monday to 11.30 pm on Tuesday. “I am sure the district administration must have informed about the fresh advisory on possibility of high waves on the sea and low-lying areas to departments concerned.”
“The waves could be of 2-3 mtrs height and this fresh advisory was from 5.30 pm on Monday to 11.30 pm on Tuesday. We have requested even small crafts and fishing trawlers not to venture in the sea,” Said Capt. Joshi.
“The alert message was received by MPT from INCOIS (department studying waves movement) and as per advisory, smaller craft should not venture into the sea,” he said.
