NOTE has issued notices to the actor, as well as the directors of the movie seeking clarification on the same. Speaking to The Goan, NOTE general secretary Shekhar Salkar said, “Showing such scenes in the movie is a different thing, as you issue disclaimers for the same. But if you make posters and advertise, it is an advertisement and in violation of section 5 (1) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.” Salkar however said that the actor as well as the directors will have to either withdraw all such posters and apologise or will have to face legal action for the act. In his letter to the actor, Salkar has stated that: The display of a popular icon smoking a cigar is a violation of Section 5(1) of The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003, which came into effect from May 1, 2004. “Unmindful of the imminent consequences, the youth would embrace this menace, just because they would want to imitate their idol! Do you intend to preach death to them? Do you wish to support the cause, which would generate thousands of widows and orphans?” states the letter.
