Pharmacy blaze: Firemen save goods worth lakhs of rupees

Only stationary items gutted in the inferno at Hindu Pharmacy

Fire broke out in the Hindu Pharmacy in the commercial capital on Thursday evening, but timely action by the fire services helped save property worth lakhs of rupees. Hindu Pharmacy owner B M Prabhudesai told the media that he is ascertaining the loss, but added that the damage to goods could be minimal since only stationary and other items were damaged in the incident. The loss of property as well as the exact cause behind the fire is being ascertained, fire services informed. Prabhudesai said though goods amounting to over one crore rupees was stocked on the mezzanine floor, only the stationary was gutted in the fire. “I cannot say at this stage how the fire has occurred inside the premises. I will ascertain the loss and intimate the fire services,” Prabhudesai said. Two fire tenders were pressed into service by the Margao fire brigade in the fire fighting operation. The Margao fire brigade received a call at around 5 pm and rushed to the spot with two fire tenders. The firemen removed a LPG cylinder from the premises and kept it for cooling. The LPG cylinder has been attached by the fire brigade. Firemen Babuso Parit said the exact cause behind the fire is under investigations, adding that the fire brigade is waiting for the owner to submit the loss caused bythe fire.
