National Students Union of India Goa State President Ahraz Mulla on Monday demanded the government to step down after owning up the responsibility for its failure to handle the employment crisis plaguing Goa’s youth.
Speaking to reporters at Congress House, Mulla drew the government’s attention to the darkness which has now consumed the future of mining engineering students from Goa Engineering.
“In the last four years, only 10 per cent of the total mining engineers have got employed and now, the entire 2017 batch will remain unemployed. The 240 students that are still studying in the mining faculty of GEC are clueless about their future,” Mulla stated.
NSUI demanded Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who also holds the education portofolio, hand over the charge to another minister for quicker resolution of the issue.
“With the closure of mining industry, not only the mining engineering students but a vast section of other students have also been affected. If the Start- up India Policy and the Make in India policy had succeeded, the students would have had some hope,” he said.
