Concerned citizens waging a battle for the demolition of the structure at the Old Goa heritage site have on Friday demanded that the MLAs, who have shared the concerns of the protestors, should table starred questions on the floor of the House on July 13 and 14, the days when issues pertaining to the Town and Country planning and Panchayat departments come up.
Given that the deadline for submitting starred questions is June 20, the concerned citizens have set in motion the process to approach the MLAs with the starred questions, with a plea to raise them in the House on July 13 and 14.
The citizens also demanded that TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane should start cracking the whip at the Old Goa heritage site first if he is so concerned about the protection of Goa’s heritage and culture.
They also demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the illegal bungalow at the Old Goa heritage site to haul the officials and book them under the provision of law.
Addressing the media, social activist Anthony D’Silva said the MLAs, who have shared concern of the people of Goa on the illegal bungalow, should table the starred questions within the June 20 deadline.
“We have drafted the questions and the same is being circulated to the MLAs with the objective that the starred questions would result in a discussion on the floor of the House in the ensuing session,” he said.
He added: “Since no action has been forthcoming against the bungalow with the officials dragging the matter, let the issue be discussed threadbare on the floor of the House.”
Glen Cabral from Old Goa pointed out that a detailed discussion in the House would provide information on how the permissions were given by the officials and authorities, only to be revoked later following public outcry.
While welcoming TCP Minister's decision to demarcate the areas around the heritage sites, he said such a move will help protect the sites from encroachments.
He further pointed out that an SIT will help unearth the officials who were responsible for granting permissions for the illegal bungalow.
