One charred to death at Mayem

An attempt to extinguish fire in an open space at Bhandarwada-Mayem proved fatal for a 70-year-old man from Bhandarwada, after he was charred to death.

Police along with the fire personnel rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control, but could not avoid the tragedy, as the incident had occurred deep in the forest.

According to Bicholim Police, the deceased, Sagun Ghadi, along with a helper had gone to cut bushes with the help of a cutting machine in an open space at Bhandarwada. Whilst he was working, a fire broke out and engulfed the area.

Ghadi tried to extinguish the fire, but got trapped in the bushes and was subsequenlty charred to death. He was rushed to GMC Hospital in Bambolim, however, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

In the meantime, Bicholim fire personnel along with the police rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, but they could not avoid the tragedy.

The body has been preserved at GMC and the final rites of the deceased will be held on Thursday at 11 am in a local crematorium.
