CANACONA
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar claimed that while the ST community was labelled as “backward”, they were successful in moving forward.
Tawadkar was addressing ST youth activists of Adarsh Yuwa Sangh (AYS) at Mushifond-Amone in Poinguinim, after being felicitated on receiving an honorary doctorate.
Addressing the meet, Tawadkar, the founder president of the AYS, recalled the activities of the AYS since its formation in 1995.
“At that time, educated youth from various villages came together and formed this movement. In the beginning, we gradually decided to meet needy students, guide them and take measures on education,” said Tawadkar.
“From 1998 onwards, this Sangh fully supported the GAKUVED movement and in 2000, the first convention of the organisation was held in Canacona. In due course after getting a ministerial position in the government, I tried reasonably to do full justice to my community. Others gave us the title of “backward”, but we successfully moved forward.”
Tawadkar called on the youth to do their best to help their ST brothers and sisters.
“I am determined to empower my hardworking workers by bringing small projects to the community, be it from the centre or the state,” Tawadkar assured.
“At least one event should be held every month through the AYS and through that, the AYS will be known as an active organisation in Goa.
