The Goa government has removed the security cover and other facilities afforded to Justice P K Misra, a retired judge of the Supreme Court, who only recently completed his term as the Goa Lokayukta.

The Lokayukta who was granted the security owing to his statutory position had recently passed several orders that the State government didn’t find favour with most prominently in indicting former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and two bureaucrats for the mining scam as well as faulting former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for ‘shirking his responsibility’ in shielding his cabinet colleague from a probe in a disproportionate assets case.

“In sheer vengeance the Goa government has displayed its rank disrespect and insensitivity to our no-nonsense Ombudsman and his family. The Goa Government has put every Goan to shame by not affording Justice Misra and his family the internationally known Goan hospitality,” Adv Aires Rodrigues said.

“Maybe it is a message to whoever will be the next Lokayukta, that either tow the government line or face such embarrassment,” he added.
