Politics raises its ugly head resulting in the delay and execution of hot mix carpeting of tourism hotbed Palolem beach road.
After some uncertainties, Palolem’s streets finally got a hot-mix carpet on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of Palolem residents launched the hot-mix works at one end of the Palolem street.
Right from Palolem-Agonda junction, Palolem beach streets leading to the main beach entrance, also having one of the narrowest road up to the Palolem-Pont, got the hotmix carpet amid some brief interruptions of traffic flow to the touristic place.
Sources informed that the Palolem street was sanctioned for hot-mixing works a long while back and had residents worried over non-execution of the works, as monsoon is just around the corner.
According to reports, with the contractor not undertaking the hot-mixing of Palolem streets, BJP even went on to blame some opposition party activists of sabotaging the works.
Sources informed that the contractor was reportedly reluctant to undertake the works because of previous pending bills.
Sources further informed that finding the works pending even as monsoons are fast approaching, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaonkar reportedly convened a meeting with the contractor and finally asked the contractor to complete the hot mixing works.
