Residents of Panzorconne have intensified their opposition to a proposed 75-apartment housing project, alleging that heavy-duty excavators have already been deployed at the site.

A group of citizens has warned that they will approach the High Court if authorities fail to act.

The residents claim that despite earlier assurances from Cuncolim MLA and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, the Cuncolim Municipal Council is yet to scrap the project.

Local resident Wendy Gomes questioned how the presence of heavy machinery at the site has gone unnoticed by the MLA. He also demanded to know why the Municipal Council has not taken steps to scrap the project, warning that public resistance is growing.

“Enough is enough. Thousands of residents will join the movement against this housing project,” Gomes warned, adding that the agitation has received support from several Cuncolkars, including Elvis Gomes, Dr Jorson Fernandes, Sammy Tavares, Clafacio Dias, and others.

Social activist Santan Fernandes stated that he has gathered documents related to the project and indicated that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) will soon be filed to challenge it.

Echoing similar concerns, Georgina Gama called for unity among residents to oppose large-scale housing developments in the municipal area. “This is the time to come together and resist these projects before it is too late,” she said.
