Stating that the creation of a drug-free society is not solely the responsibility of the government, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said parents must also actively participate in safeguarding their children from the menace of drugs.

“Only through collective efforts can the campaign achieve its intended success,” Sawant said.

He was speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of an anti-drug awareness motorcycle rally organised by the Bicholim Police Station on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The rally commenced from Ravindra Bhavan in Sanquelim.

Among those present on the occasion were Police Inspector Vijay Rane, Sanquelim Municipal Chairperson Siddhi Prabhu, Councillor Riyaz Khan, Ravindra Bhavan Vice-Chairman Dattaram Chimulkar, Subhash Malik, and several other dignitaries.

The chief minister praised the initiative undertaken by the Bicholim Police Station to organise an anti-drug awareness motorcycle rally.

Police Inspector Vijay Rane said many young people initially consume narcotic substances out of curiosity, entertainment, or for fun.

“However, what begins as experimentation often develops into a serious addiction. Such addiction has devastating consequences not only for the individuals involved but also for their families and society as a whole,” said PI Rane.

“It often destroys family life and adversely affects the future of young people.”

He urged parents to remain vigilant and ensure that their children stay away from harmful substances. He also stated that the police and the government are carrying out their responsibilities diligently to combat drug abuse and trafficking.

The awareness rally, which started from Ravindra Bhavan in Sanquelim, witnessed the participation of police sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, and police personnel from the Bicholim Police Station.

The rally passed through various parts of Sanquelim before reaching Bicholim, where awareness messages against drug abuse were spread among the public. The programme concluded at the Bicholim Police Station.
