MAPUSA
Parts of Mapusa went without PWD water supply for two days on the trot not because of the ongoing repair work of the Tillari canal but due to damage done to the pipeline by the ongoing underground cabling work of the Electricity Department.
Residents of Altinho, Duler, Shettya-vaddo, Peddem and some other areas did not get regular water supply since Monday.
According to PWD officials, the Electricity Department damaged a pipeline at Altinho which resulted in the interruption of water supply.
While the Water Department completed the repair work on the pipeline late Monday evening, it was again found that there was a leakage at the joint, forcing the PWD to stop the supply and carry out re-restoration of the work.
“Our men are at work and expect to complete the work by late Tuesday evening. We will restore water supply by early Wednesday morning,” said T Shirsat, AE PWD (Water).
Earlier this month, the PWD had informed the public that Bardez would get restricted water supply for at least a month due to repair work being carried out on the Tillari canal.
Drinking water in several areas in Bardez including Mapusa was impacted by the decision to restrict the supply.
Porvorim faced the brunt of the decision as residents in the vicinity have been receiving supply on alternate days.
