Part-time teachers demand regularisation, write to CM

Part-time instructors and teachers in Goa have demanded that their services be regularised and have written to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who also holds the education portfolio.

In their written communique to the Chief Minister, they said that all Special Teachers (working under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan) and instructors for special subjects be included as 'teachers' under the New Education Policy.

“Our contract is being continuously renewed and the instructors have completed almost eight years in service. All are graduates, a few double graduates and masters, from recognized professional Colleges," the communique said.

Categorised as 'Part-Time Instructors’ they however work full time from 7.45 am “ 1.45 pm, just as the case is with regular teachers, they said, adding that they conduct regular classes and also take up other assigned duties of schools. 

Schools also engage them for substitution classes and also handle instruction of scholastic subjects, they added.

Placing another demand before the chief minister they said, art education and physical education posts in high schools which are vacant should be filled.
