Goa Pradesh Congress President Amit Patkar is reportedly trying to persuade the Congress high command in Delhi to get his favourite MLA elected as Congress Legislative Party Leader.
However, sources in the Congress said his efforts have not yielded results thus far as he could not get an appointment from the party high command in Delhi on Wednesday.
Patkar was not in the State and had to conduct the scheduled meeting of the Congress party executive leaders through online mode.
"Patkar is lobbying for St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes to become Congress Legislative Party leader. He tried to seek appointment of the high command with the demand, but could not get the appointment,” said a senior Congress leader from Goa.
“Patkar was supposed to meet Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal but could not meet him,” the senior Congress leader added.
Patkar has, however, denied that he had gone to Delhi.
“I had gone outside Goa for a business meeting and due to this, I had to conduct the Congress meeting online.”
Since the removal of Michael Lobo as CLP leader, the party is still taking time to appoint the new CLP leader.
Sources said the party high command has finalised an MLA for the CLP leader’s post but is taking time to announce the name.
It is expected that the CLP leader’s name will be announced during the visit of AICC incharge Gundu Rao in the State.
It is reported that Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Cuncolim MLA Uri Alemao and Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar are frontrunners for the position of CLP leader.
