Cortalim MLA and Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board Anton Vas on Wednesday morning met officials of electricity department over the erratic power supply in Cortalim constituency.

Those present at the meeting included the assistant engineer, junior engineer, and staff of the electricity department along with panchas and people to resolve the issue of power supply.

Later speaking to reporters, Vas said the meeting was convened especially as the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival was fast approaching and many Hindus could face hardships due to power cuts.

"We received a lot of complaints from people about issues with power supply. The major issue is at Vodhant, Pajentar areas of Cortalim and also several parts of Quelosssim," said Vas.

"We also have Ganesh Chaturthi and people need proper power supply and also illumination in the form of street lights to bring in the Ganesh idols or during the Visarjan. We cannot afford to have power cuts and darkness in the area during a festival," said Vas.

The MLA said he had directed electricity department officials that the issue of power supply must be addressed on top priority.

“I have told the electricity department officials that they can tell me of any issues that they face so that I can take that up with the power minister and the government. I have directed them to take necessary steps to ensure there are no regular power cuts, especially during the festival," said Vas.
