Halted tourism projects, which could prove a boon for Goa's tourism industry are likely to be resumed ahead of the annual tourist season in October.
The government, sources said, is serious about bringing back the projects that will not only boost arrivals but also generate revenue for the State.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte who has taken the lead, held a review meeting held with Goa Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar, Chief Secretary, Puneet Kumar Goel (IAS), officials from Tourism and key representatives from over a dozen related departments on the status of projects.
"Quite a few projects that suffered an abrupt halt in the last few years could get a new lease of life this year. Likewise, other projects that are awaiting approval will be examined. The department is looking at increasing revenue for Goa and at the same time boost arrivals. The upcoming season might see some of these projects resumed for its guests," an official said.
The minister also held the first meeting of the Goa Tourism Board Empowered Committee. In a tweet, the minister said the meeting has proved to be a brainstorming session on stellar aspects that will ensure Better Services from the Department of Tourism and GTDC and thus contribute towards The Round Development of Tourism sector in Goa.
