The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Dipak M. Bandekar has informed that the organisers of ‘Timeout-72 hours' electronic-dance-music (EDM) festival are required to pay all taxes to the state government by January 20.
The organisers will be paying Goods-and-Services-Tax (GST) on entry of people and food items and Value-Added-Tax (VAT) on alcohol.
Bandekar further informed that his office has asked the organisers about details of how many tickets were sold and how many were complimentary tickets during the three days between December 27 and December 29, when the festival happened at Vagator.
However, the organisers of Timeout-72 hours have still not provided these details to the commercial taxes office.
Bandekar added, "We had our team of officials at the venue of Timeout-72 hours for three days. We made our assessment in terms of how many people visited the event, etc.
"We will compare our data with their data and do the assessment. In case, we realise that they should be paying higher taxes than they are paying, we will tell them to pay the additional amount."
Apart from complimentary tickets, most tickets of Timeout-72 hours were sold through Bookmyshow's portal.
Therefore, assessment shouldn't be difficult for the commercial taxes office.
Bandekar said, "We can always tell Bookmyshow to provide details to us of how many tickets were sold through them."
