MARGAO
The pharmacist, who was allegedly involved in disposing of bio-medical waste at a dark spot in the Comba area of the commercial capital, on Friday paid the penalty of Rs 25,000 to the Margao Municipal Council.
Though the civic body had levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on the pharmacist, municipal officials are believed to have reduced the fine amount after the violator admitted to his mistake of disposing of the waste at a dark spot.
While the MMC had directed the pharmacist to pay the fine on Thursday and appear before the Chief Officer on Friday, he did not pay the fine on Thursday, but was believed to have instead called on local politicos to save him from the penalty.
The realisation that his move to get the politicos failed to save him from paying the penalty, the pharmacist visited the civic body on Friday and paid the fine of Rs 25,000.
