Forest officials rescued a large strongly-built leopard from a house well at Galiem-Poinguinim.
The male leopard of at least nine years of age, reached the residential locality of Galiem-Poinguinim at about 11 pm and was about to attack a dog that was tied outside the house. The dog however began to bark frantically, alerting his owners who switched on the lights.
Frightened, the leopard tried to run away, but in his bid to escape accidentally fell into a 10 metre deep well situated behind the house.
Forest officials arrived the next morning and rescued the leopard who had kept himself aloft for over 9 hours by holding on to the motor-pump pipe immersed in the well.
Forest official Deepak Hanskar informed that the leopard had not suffered much injury but was a bit exhausted due to it’s unsuccessful, but valiant efforts to come out of the well.
