Those running food outlets in the state right from shacks to hotels will soon have to pay more to get permit licenses from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). These licenses will also have to be renewed annually, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane informed on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the FDA will be teaming up with the police force to carry out checks on food outlets, restaurants, hotels being run without FDA licenses and health NOCs.
The checks will be directed more specifically towards food outlets being run by foreigners, as it was brought to the notice of the Health Department that there are many foreigners running food businesses in the state without necessary licenses.
Action will be taken against those found not complying, Rane announced on Wednesday.
Further, the Health Act will be amended and will soon see the inclusion of penal consequences including prosecution.
Rane had earlier informed that all shacks and hotels would be subjected to strict inspections by the FDA, and if found not complying with FDA guidelines, their kitchens would be sealed, and they would be prohibited from carrying out further business.
"No pressure will be tolerated, and there will be no question of giving them a license again," said Rane.
The FDA will conduct parallel checks on businesses in North and South Goa.
Rane has also assured that the FDA, with the help of the police force, would crackdown on illegal drug trade in the state.
The Director General of Police informed Rane on Wednesday that the necessary directions had already been given to the SPs of North and South Goa.
