PANAJI: Goa police have said they have put in place all the security measures to ensure incident-free New Year celebrations. Superintendent of Police (North Goa and Crime Branch) Nidhin Valsan said various teams are deployed across places in the wake of a series of events scheduled in the State to usher in the New Year.
“We are completely prepared for the New Year… Christmas was peaceful and the New Year celebrations will be the same. Our teams are patrolling the areas round the clock. We have our entire police force including senior police officers on the field day and night to ensure that everyone has a wonderful New Year celebration and the tourist season is also peaceful,” the office said.Replying to media queries regarding the amplified sound played at parties beyond the 10 pm limit, Valsan sought journalists' and citizens’ assistance to clamp down on such events.
“As per the order, all night parties have to take permission and follow rules. If the organizers don’t do so, legal action will follow. If you know of any violations, report them to me,” he said.
The High Court had ordered the banning of commercial late-night parties with amplified music after 10 pm. The order does not impact the parties in enclosed areas and religious events as several Goan families have planned private parties to celebrate the year-end festivities.
These parties should however not turn into a nuisance for others. Meanwhile, the Goa State Pollution Control Board officers assisted by officials from concerned departments are on the field with devices to measure sound decibels.
