Carvalho brothers bring glory to Mapusa
Win two top places in Carnival junk car category

The Carvalho brothers brought glory to Mapusa by cornering the top two places in the junk car category of the carnival parade in all the four major towns in the State.
For younger of the kin, Terence Carvalho the award was even more sweeter as he was thwarted from taking part in the parade on the first two days by an over enthusiastic Mapusa Traffic Police, who allegedly detained his car on a politician’s instructions.
Terence’s junk car won the first place in Mapusa while he bagged the second place in Vasco.
His brother, Denzil’s half rick and half bike contraption won the first place in Panaji, Margao and Vasco but failed to qualify in Mapusa on a technical clause.
It may be recalled that Terence could not take part in the parade in Panaji and Margao after the Mapusa traffic police detained his car for frivolous reasons when he was on his way to the carnival parade on the first day.
The car was however released on the third day of the parade.
Although his car had all the documents including the registered number plate in order, the car was detained on the ground that it was repainted.
All appeals that the car was decked up only for a specific occasion fell on deaf ears.
While the car was detained by a junior traffic cop, Traffic PI Roy Pereira was coincidentally on leave on that day and his mobile phone was switched off.
There was allegation that a politician from Mapusa was involved in deliberately detaining the car to seek political revenge on the car owner.
For the uninitiated, Terence Carvalho had worked against Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza’s panel in the council election from Ward 20 in Gaunsawaddo.
The deputy CM’s candidate however won from the ward on a wafer thin margin.
