The notice issued on behalf of the board by member secretary Levinson Martins, has asked the GSIDC as well as its contractor BVG India Ltd, to submit a compliance report within seven days.
Officials of the Board had conducted an inspection near the garbage collection sites along the highway along the Bambolim slope after they received a complaint that waste wasn’t being collected regularly and properly.
“Observations indicate that due to non collection of waste on a regular basis the quantum of waste accumulated has increased and also has covered a larger area,” the GSIDC said in its notice.
The complainant pointed out that waste was lying along the highways for days together when it was the responsibility of the GSIDC and its contractor to ensure timely and proper waste collection along highways.
The task of collection of waste alongside highways was given to the GSIDC which in turn floated a tender and appointed a contractor in the form of Pune-based company BVG India Ltd to collect garbage along the highways.
