Minister for Ports Digambar Kamat visited the Kochi Water Metro to understand the world class approach towards sustainable urban mobility.

Minister for Ports Digambar Kamat visited the Kochi water metro in a bid to understand its world class approach towards sustainable urban mobility and efficient utilisation of inland waterways.

Accompanied by officials, the Minister said the visit provided valuable insights into the planning, operation and management of modern water-based public transport, including multimodal connectivity, electric ferry operations, passenger-friendly infrastructure, safety standards, and environmentally sustainable practices. “Such initiatives demonstrate how waterways can be transformed into efficient transport corridors while easing road congestion and promoting green mobility,” he said.

He added: “As Goa is blessed with an extensive network of rivers and waterways, these learnings offer valuable perspectives for exploring innovative, sustainable and future-ready transport solutions suited to our State’s unique geography. We remain committed to adopting best practices that strengthen connectivity, improve public infrastructure and contribute to the overall development of Goa.”
