PORVORIM
The reservoir at the Water Treatment Plant at Porvorim has started receiving water from Tillari from January 1 in sufficient quantity, making it possible for the PWD to restart the Porvorim Water Treatment Plant.
Due to maintenance work at Tillari for the last two months, there was no supply of raw water from Tillari, due to which the PWD could not treat water.
Residents of the Porvorim constituency used to get supply from the Assnora treatment plant in the morning. Since the supply of treated water from Assnora was not sufficient, Porvorim had been facing a water shortage and the PWD was forced to supply water to residents in some areas of Porvorim through tankers.
When contacted, PWD (water division) Assistant Engineer Vasudev Parab said they had difficulties in supplying water to residents of Porvorim in the last two months.
“We have now begun receiving raw water from Tillari. Now they are treating around 10 MLD of raw water at the Porvorim water treatment plant and pumping it to the new over-tank constructed near the O'Coqueiro junction and from this tank, the water is being released to all areas of Porvorim as per old timings. The water treatment capacity of this plant is 15 MLD. Once the water supply from Tillari is stabilised, they will start treating more than 10 MLD water."
"Presently, water treated at the Porvorim plant is being supplied to the residents of Porvorim only, and the water received from the Assnora treatment plant is being supplied to the PWD colony and Reis Magos. The residents of Salai are receiving water from the Assnora treatment plant. Once the work of the overhead water tank at Dhonwado is completed, treated water from Porvorim will be pumped into this new tank and then supplied to the residents of Salai. Now, the supply is quite satisfactory," said Parab.
