Water supply to the entire Bardez taluka and parts of Bicholim was disrupted on Sunday after a power fault affected the Assonora Water Treatment Plant, forcing pumping operations to stop. The disruption began around noon when electricity supply to the plant was interrupted, preventing water from being pumped to overhead storage tanks.

As a result, several areas in Mapusa and other parts of Bardez did not receive water supply till late Sunday evening. Initially, the fault was suspected to be in the 33 KV external power line supplying electricity to the plant.

However, officials from the Electricity Department later clarified that the problem was with the sub-station located within the treatment plant premises. Engineers were rushed to the site to rectify the issue.

“The problem was not with our power line. The fault was with the sub-station inside the treatment plant campus. It was detected and has since been repaired, and power supply has been restored,” said Vallabh Samant, Executive Engineer, Electricity Department, Bicholim.

Following the restoration of power, pumping operations were expected to resume, officials said.
