Pre-monsoon works to begin in Mormugao across all wards

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Leo Rodrigues on Tuesday said the council will begin pre-monsoon works across all wards.
"The Councillors have stressed on pre-monsoon works and these works will begin soon. We had placed a tender for pre-monsoon works on April 2 but no one bid for the tender and we had to place a second tender after a gap of eight days. Two contractors applied and the tender has been finalised. The works will begin with low-lying areas and the city ward where there are flooding issues and later across all wards by allotting six labourers per ward, especially at places where there are chances of flooding," said Rodrigues.
Rodrigues said the MMC has decided to appoint a surveyor and an advocate to ascertain properties belonging to MMC because some surveys showed that MMC property was in the name of other people.
“We had taken a resolution to appoint a surveyor and advocate two years ago and we had even appointed them but they did not give us any reply and hence we are passing a resolution again,” he said.
He also informed that the Sulabh Souchalaya wanted to renew the MMC NOC for maintenance of toilet facilities at Baina and Vasco for 15 years.
“Though we have resolved earlier to renew it by three years, the councillors raised objections and maintained that the toilets be checked first and then take a call whether we should renew it for 3 years or 15 years," said Rodrigues.
"We also have resolved to give a NOC to the Christian cemetery at Sada to obtain water supply connection. Henceforth, they will pay their water bills instead of the MMC paying the amount, though the connection will continue to be in the name of the MMC. This is good for us as we are already struggling with finance issues," said Rodrigues.
