The Director of Education Shailesh Zingde on Thursday issued a circular to managements of all schools asking them to commence collecting details, including individual bank details, of all their teaching and non-teaching staff to enable direct online transfers of the salary grant.
“The processing of salary of employees of grant-in-aid schools will be totally online on the software developed by Axis Bank Ltd,” Zingde said in the circular.
Zingde’s circular states that the head of the aided schools and their managements will jointly be responsible for the “correctness of data” of the employees so collected.
“This will enable the Directorate of Education to ensure timely disbursal of salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff of the institutions,” the circular said.
It also said that an authorised official of Axis Bank will visit each and every school to facilitate the process of opening accounts and feeding master data in the computer system.
Managements have also been asked to co-operate with the officials of Axis Bank.
The proposal to disburse salary grants online and directly to accounts of the beneficiary teachers and other staff instead of to the management for forward payment to them was announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in his speech when presenting the State Budget 2023-24 in the Goa Legislative Assembly in March.
There are around 800 government-aided primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the State which have thousands of teachers and non-teaching staff on their muster rolls.
The new proposal styled “Mukhyamantri Gurudakshina Yojna” is expected to raise heckles among managements of aided institutions and also the staff, due to the hassles of opening new salary accounts routing banking to a new private bank.
