OLD GOA
Opposing the move to convert the Mandur rural health and training centre (RHTC) into a Covid hospital, Prof Ramrao Wagh has instead suggested that in-patient services, as well as operation theatre and other facilities, be resumed at the RHTC.
Wagh was speaking at the RHTC during the felicitation programme of frontline workers of the RHTC and other volunteers of the St Andre constituency, on Saturday. The programme was organized by Rebuild India Trust and Fr Agnel College of Arts & Commerce, Pilar.
Speaking at the felicitation, Wagh said, “This hospital is providing excellent service despite a shortage of staff, and should be provided with staff as per Medical Council of India norms. In-patient services, as well as operation theatre and other facilities, should be resumed without further delay, and the government should retain it as RHTC instead of converting it into Covid hospital.”
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that Mandur sarpanch Ajit Bacal had submitted a memorandum to the health minister urging the government to upgrade Mandur RHTC so that it could handle Covid cases as the third wave was imminent.
Speaking at the function, ZP member Dhaku Madkaikar suggested that the hospital complex should be named after former St Andre MLA late Vishnu Surya Wagh.
The Principal of Shiroda homoeopathic college Dr Shubha Shivaikar was also present.
Dr Delia D’Souza and Dr Archana Dessai were among those who were felicitated at the function.
