As part of improvement of accident prone stretches, the PWD, NH will take a slipway at the busy Old Market circle and also develop a dedicated footpath, connecting Old Market to the Collectorate building.
Both the projects will cost the exchequer a little over Rs 2 crore.
Launching the projects at the Old Market circle on Saturday, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said the projects will help streamline traffic at the circle and also provide a dedicated footpath to the KTC bus stand and the Collectorate building for pedestrians.
“The pedestrian footpath will help the elderly and the senior citizens, besides the general public in safely walking to the KTC bus stand from the Old Market or visit the Collectorate building. This will help reduce the accidents involving pedestrians,” he said.
Sardesai further pointed out that the projects are being taken up under the improvement of accident prone stretches in the State and have been sanctioned after his meeting with Union Minister of Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari.
The Fatorda MLA has instructed the Fatorda police to ensure that the Old Market circle is rid of beggars and squatters saying he would not tolerate any nuisance or menace from anyone near the traffic circle.
