Benaulim-based social activist Santan Pereira has called for urgent intervention by officials of the PWD, National Highway executing work on the bypass near the Mercado mall junction, Benaulim.
With the PWD going for a road diversion to facilitate construction of an underpass on the Benaulim-Varca-Navelim junction, activist Santan Pereira has raised apprehensions that the situation at the spot could give rise to a fatal accident.
He said the road laid for the diversion has worn off affecting the movement of vehicles. Pointing out that a makeshift traffic island has been created at the site with cloth material and iron rods, Pereira expressed concern that the rods protruding out from the island are posing danger to motorists.
“The temporary road laid at the spot for diversion of traffic is in a damaged state. The road needs another hot mix coat to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. The entire stretch also needs proper illumination,” he said.
