The PWD restored water supply to Murmune village in Guleli much to the relief of residents who had been affected by severe water shortage since the past six days.
The aggrieved residents had threatened to stage a protest on Wednesday if the issue was not resolved by Tuesday night.
Taking note of hardships faced by residents, the PWD repaired the pipeline which supplies water from the Paikul water project and resumed water supply late Tuesday night.
Water supply to almost all houses in the village was restored by Wednesday morning, much to the relief of residents.
Confirming that the pipeline had been repaired, former sarpanch Rohidas Gaonkar said water supply has been restored on Wednesday morning.
“Now, residents of Murmune are receiving water as before. It is very important for PWD officials to be serious about water supply because in the absence of tap water, residents have no other access to water supply,” said Gaonkar.
When contacted, PWD Assistant Engineer Soma Naik, said the Water Supply Office in Valpoi is presently facing staff shortage.
“The junior engineer in this office has been transferred, making it difficult to plan work in all parts of Sattari taluka. This often leads to drinking water problems in many places. However, we managed to resolved the water supply problem in Murmune on Tuesday night,” said Naik.
