The workmen are employed at water treatment plants, sewerage plants, construction of roads and other services of the PWD. They gathered at the Kranti Circle in front of the KTC stand in Panaji and chanted slogans demanding the immediate implementation of the seventh pay commission and regular appointments in the PWD.
AITUC general secretary Christopher Fonseca addressed the workers along with Raju Mangueshkar, Prasanna Utagi, Suhass Naik, Sudip Pai Naik, Mohandas Naik, Rajesh Bethodkar and Dinesh Raul.
A delegation presented a detailed memorandum to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar seeking their intervention in resolving the matter.
Their demands include immediate implementation of 7th pay to all society workers, immediate regularisation, regular appointment for PWD Society workers while filling in regular vacant posts as per High Court directions, correction of designations and grade pay after grant of temporary status, payment of third installment of pending arrears, extension of leave, maternity benefits and extension of medical scheme at par with class C and D government employee categories.
