Public Works Department Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday said the 5.15-km elevated corridor in Porvorim could open to traffic on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, well before the October deadline.

“We are trying to complete the project ahead of schedule. Work is progressing quickly, and the corridor could be inaugurated on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi,” Kamat said.

He was speaking after launching hotmixing work for the six-lane corridor. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik, senior PWD officials and representatives of the contractor were present.

Kamat said the PWD is carrying out several public projects while maintaining quality. “We want to show people that the PWD delivers. Even with set deadlines, we aim to finish most projects early,” he said.

The elevated corridor, along the busy NH-66 stretch in Porvorim, is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity between Panaji and North Goa.

Once open, the six-lane structure should cut travel time, especially during peak tourist seasons when traffic slows down.

Calling it a long-awaited project, Khaunte said the corridor was a “dream project” for him and Kedar Naik, made possible with the support of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

He also thanked PWD officials for their coordination and for solving key challenges during construction. “This project will improve traffic flow in Porvorim and nearby areas,” he said.

The corridor is part of the State government’s efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and reduce traffic bottlenecks in fast-growing areas.

Officials said that with hotmixing work under way, the project has entered its final stage, raising hopes of an early opening.
