Strong opposition was voiced against the proposed floating recreational platform and resort project at Quelossim after the Village Panchayat held a special Gram Sabha on Sunday. The meeting resolved to challenge the provisional No Objection Certificate (NOC) granted for the project, while Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas declared that the project would not be allowed to proceed.

The Gram Sabha was convened after the Village Panchayat received an order from the Block Development Officer (BDO), Mormugao Block, regarding M/s Movaj Enterprises’ proposal to set up a floating recreational platform, park and resort on Survey No. 170/0 in Quelossim village.

The meeting was attended by MLA Antonio Vas, Panchayat members, local residents and the parish priest of Quelossim Church. Those present expressed concern over the project, with several residents raising environmental, ecological and public interest issues. They urged the Panchayat to take all legal steps to stop the project.

After detailed discussions, the Gram Sabha resolved to challenge the provisional NOC by filing an appeal before the appropriate authority. It also decided to approach the High Court if required to protect the interests of the village and prevent the project from going ahead. Addressing the gathering, Vas alleged that some people were trying to mislead the Panchayat and create unnecessary confusion over the issue. He assured villagers that he stood firmly with them and would provide all possible support to oppose the project. “Whatever happens, this project will not be allowed,” Vas said, adding that the interests of Quelossim and its people would remain the top priority.

The meeting ended with a unanimous decision to pursue all available legal remedies against the proposed development. Panchayat members said they would continue to work with villagers and legal experts to ensure the community’s concerns are properly presented before the competent authorities.
