MARGAO
The Raia village panchayat has decided to issue a show cause notice to the owner of a piggery at Manora after an inspection conducted by the panchayat with residents revealed unhygienic state of affairs at the site, posing health hazard to the residents.
Local Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco along with a large number of local residents assembled for the inspection on Thursday morning, demanding immediate action against the activity.
Sarpanch Esmeralda Gomes and Secretary A Velip later told the media that the activity indeed poses a nuisance to the local residents, as evident by the foul smell emanating from the site, as they promised to show cause notice on the owner. The secretary went a step further saying that the panchayat will serve a seven-day notice on the owner to shut down the operation or face disconnection of water and power supply to the unit.
The Curtorim MLA later told the media that he was in favour of the immediate disconnection of both water and power supply to the unit since it was posing nuisance and health hazard to the residents. “The health officer has told me that he would issue the notice to the owner before initiating further action,” he added.
