Pernem fire personnel were kept busy throughout the day on Wednesday, clearing as many as seven trees that had fallen on houses and roads in the taluka.
According to reports, a tree came crashing down on the house belonging to Thomas Fernandes at Pernem market and damaged the toilet. The house owner has suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh and property worth about Rs 2 lakh was saved by the fire personnel, informed the fire officials.
Fire officials further informed that a tree fell at Girkawada-Arambol, while another tree collapsed on a house at Marathwada-Mandrem.
A tree came crashing down on a house belonging to Krishna Tandel, causing a loss of Rs 25,000 and fire fighters saved property worth over Rs 2 lakh, added the fire officials.
A landslide was reported at Aroba-Tuem, where the debris flowed into the house of one Dessai through the back door.
A branch of a banyan tree came crashing down and damaged a kiosk, while traffic was blocked after a coconut tree fell on the road at Dabholkarwada-Morjim. A tree fell on a saw mill at Parsekarwada-Arambol.
At Arambol, a tree fell on the house of former sarpanch Daniel D'Souza.
