Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has dared BJP leaders to prove that he has received money from any anyone to criticise the government, even as he demanded to know why Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is silent on the controversial Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance (FRDI) Bill.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo pointed out that since the entire police machinery is under the BJP-led government, they can put the machinery to find out whether anyone is funding the campaign against the government. "The government has shunted out SP Bosco George from the ACB, who was investigating the beach cleaning scam and replaced him by Karthik Kashyap. What prevents the government to put SP Karthik on the job to find out the people who are paying me instead of levelling baseless allegations," Reginaldo told the media, while pooh-poohing the allegations made by BJP leaders including Subhash Fal Desai.
On the FRDI Bill, the Congress MLA said it is feared that the savings of the people in the bank would be wiped of once FRDI comes into force because the government would use the money to
bail out dying financial institutions.
"There are certain provisions in the FRDI Bill wherein the creditors and depositors will have to absorb losses in case of bank failure. This means the common people will have to bail out the bank with their hard earned money if the bank suffers loses. Currently, under the deposit insurance corporation Act, a maximum of one lakh depositors in banks are insured in case banks suffers a loss," he said, while demanding to know whether the Chief Minister will answer pertinent questions on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's devastating economic policies which he said are crippling the masses of the country.
He also condemned the Chief Minister for directing his tirade at the GPCC President Shantaram Naik, saying the Chief Minister has crossed all limits in dealing with the Opposition.
