Remediation contractor’s bill yet to be cleared

MARGAO
Even as the Goa Waste Management Corporation-appointed contractor is bracing up to resume remediation work at the Sonsodo legacy dump, questions are being raised over the delay by the Margao Municipal Council to clear the contractor’s bill amounting to Rs 85.19 lakh for the work of shifting and remediation of the tonnes of waste stacked at the Sonsodo waste treatment plant.

As per the request of the Margao Municipal Council, the contractor had taken up the work of the shifting of over 4000 cubic meters of waste which was lying inside the Sonsodo waste treatment plant earlier this year. As per the MMC order, the contractor had taken up remediation of the waste after shifting the same from the treatment plant during the lockdown period. However, the payment to the contractor has not been forthcoming from the Margao Municipal Council to date.

Inquiries have only revealed that the file pertaining to the sanction for payment of the money was forwarded to the office of the Director of Municipal Administration. MMC sources pointed out that the civic body will clear the contractor’s bill only after receiving the necessary sanction from the DMA’s office.
