Coastal police DySP Sammy Tavares on Friday said that they have requested the Fisheries Department to provide them with a boat and that one boat for coastal police was being built at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).
Tavares was speaking to reporters during the inauguration of a new ramp and stairs facility at the Harbour Coastal police station in the presence of DIG Omvir Bishnoi, PI Navlesh Dessai and others.
"Our boats are old and are under maintenance, and these boats are not operational. We don't have any boat operational. Whenever there is a need, we inform the fisheries department, and Captain of Ports and they co-operate with us and we do our jobs. Our concerned police officials have informed the Director of Fisheries department to provide a boat, and we can then assist them round the clock to send our policemen for patrolling and take necessary action. Presently, the work on the construction of a new boat is under process at GSL," said Tavares.
PI Navlesh Desai said that the new steps and ramp at the Harbour Coastal police station were taken up at the cost of Rs 10.55 lakh through PWD.
