Sanguem
A motorcyclist was injured in a road accident at Ambeudok in Sanguem on Friday, with local residents alleging that the mishap was caused by a truck driver who was speeding and driving outside his lane.
According to residents, the truck was travelling at high speed along the narrow stretch of road when it allegedly moved out of its lane and collided with the motorcycle.
The injured rider was rushed to the Curchorem-Cacora Health Centre in a private vehicle by a local resident after the 108 ambulance service was reportedly delayed in reaching the spot.
Police visited the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further details are awaited.
Residents said the nearly one-kilometre stretch is regularly used by local commuters and is too narrow for high-speed driving.
They alleged that heavy vehicles, especially trucks, are often driven recklessly on the road.
Locals have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles on the stretch and strictly enforce speed limits to prevent similar accidents in the future.
